Community service is an essential part of a Roosevelt Elementary School education. Click on the titles below to see the many ways our students help in our community.
On November 16 at 9:00 a.m., students will race for the chance to win first place and a chance to win a turkey for their Thanksgiving feast. Second and third place winners will also win pumpkin pie or local dairy milk from cows here in our very own Tulare County.
Our school is taking part in the penny wars project in order to raise funds to prepare gift baskets for needy families within our community. This project takes place November 28-December 2. We challenge students to collect pennies and bring them to class in order to compete amongst their peers. The class with the highest penny count wins a movie and popcorn! We are also encouraging students to bomb or sabotage other classrooms by adding nickels, dimes, quarters, and even dollars into their jars!
In March 2015, our school had a coin drive for over two weeks to raise funds for the Lighthouse Rescue Mission. The funds provide assistance to mothers and their children residing on-site.
In May 2015, our Roosevelt coffee club worked with Habitat for Humanity to work on some construction and other housing projects adjacent to our school site. The event was sponsored by Lowes as they were promoting “National Women Build Week.” This one day activity was very successful, and our Roosevelt parents made a positive impact on our community at large.
