Roosevelt Elementary School Office Building

Our Community Service Projects

We want our students at Roosevelt Elementary School to learn the importance of involving ourselves with the community that we live in. This page will keep you updated on all of the community service projects we have going on here. Check back often!

Penny Wars
Our school takes part in the penny wars project in order to raise funds to make donations to local organizations.  Our 4th-grade classes participate in these service projects. Some of our projects include preparing food baskets for Roosevelt families within our community, providing cleaning materials to the Lighthouse Rescue Mission in Tulare, buying toys and games to donate to the children at Valley Children's Hospital in Madera, and buying sewing machines for a vocational school in Rwanda, Africa.

We challenge students to collect pennies and bring them to class in order to compete among their peers. The class with the highest penny count wins a movie and popcorn! We are also encouraging students to bomb or sabotage other classrooms by adding nickels, dimes, quarters, and even dollars into their jars! Check back soon for the dates of our next penny war.

Lighthouse Rescue Mission - Coins for Caring
Roosevelt School, along with other Tulare City Schools, collects change donations from students and families. All the donations benefit the Lighthouse Rescue Mission in Tulare. We appreciate our student's efforts as it benefits our own families in our community.

United for Good
This year Roosevelt has teamed up with TCSD schools throughout the city of Tulare to support Friends of Tulare Animal Services. Friends of Tulare Animal Services is an organization dedicated to supporting Tulare Animal Services by improving the welfare and well-being of animals in our community. They provide assistance in the form of promoting adoption and fostering programs, organizing events, raising awareness about responsible pet ownership, supporting spay/neuter initiatives, and transportation. Join us in supporting such an amazing organization by purchasing your 23-24 UFG shirt that we wear every Wednesday to show that we are United For Good!

Canned Food Drive
These are held throughout the year through our "Family Movie Nights." Rough Rider families are encouraged to come and enjoy a movie throughout the year. We encourage families and students to bring a canned food item as their way of entry to help collect canned goods for local charities.

Toys for Tots
During the month of December, students and staff can drop off new, unwrapped toys in the office. The office has a bin for collection and all donations go to Valley Children's Hospital. These toy donations go to needy families in the area for Christmas gifts.

Back to School Give Away
At the beginning of the school year, our teachers connected with the community by having a back to school give away.  Teachers and some families donated clothes, shoes, backpacks, lunch pails and jackets to set our students up for a successful school year.
